December 2007
So long 2007, hello 2008!
![]() |
So it’s nearly here, 2008. I can’t believe it. While 2007 was a pretty good year for me, I moved to Nacogdoches, bought my prized possession - Mimi- the Mini Cooper and started as the new editor of Buzz, I have a feeling that 2008 will be even better. Being a city slicker from Big D, I typically spend New Year’s Eve with friends at a downtown pub, but, decided this year to join my East Texas buddies at a smaller home-based celebration. But, for those, of you who want to spend the night out on the town, here are some options.

To swap or shop?
So it’s two days after Christmas and I’m already starting to get those calls. You know, the ones from friends, where they detail all the horrible things they got this year.
“Can you believe this?,” one of my closest guy friends said Wednesday night. “My mother actually got me a gift certificate to Bath and Body Works? What am I going to do with this?”At the time I had no idea, but last night while surfing the web, I found an answer for him, exchange it. The World Wide Web is home to several sites that enable people to either buy, sell or trade gift cards. The plasticjungle.com, leveragecard.com and cardavenue.com accept a wide range of gift cards from Target to the Gap. Some, including SwapaGift.com, even allow you to pay bills with the gift card. The site gives you between 60 and 70 percent of the card’s balance, depending on the type of card. American Express and Home Depot gift cards can be redeemed for the most value, while gift cards from retailers such as Abercrombie & Fitch and Barnes & Noble get slightly less.

Rock the Halls
Time to bust out the air guitar. Former AC/DC vocalist Dave Evans will be rocking the halls this weekend along with Halo Down, Set Adrift and Half-Life at the Nacogdoches Anex. For those who don’t know, Evans hit the road with AC/DC in 1973, performing and recording with the band for a few months before parting ways in 1974. His one single with the band, “Can I Sit Next to You Girl” was released in Australia and New Zealand.
Details: 7 p.m. Dec. 22 The Anex in Nacogdoches $8 at the door or bring a new toy valued at $10
All proceeds from the concert will go to Toys for Tots

I’m normally not a big fan of male a cappella choirs, but this new take on an Christmas classic is pretty entertaining.

They say it was ‘natural,’ which is more than you can say for Big Hawk. Hear what all the fuss was about.
