Random movies: More than meets the eye

So this past weekend I checked out the latest silver screen offering for the X-Men franchise. I would say it delivered, but not in the way the second of the trilogy did. No, instead we are given non-stop action, with disregard for character development and a deep story. But we do receive character, uh… undevelopment with several deaths given to main characters.

Regardless of of, it was a good film worth seeing if you’re into that whole mutant thing. Also, a teaser trailer for cult favorite “Snakes on a Plane” was shown when I saw it. I was the only one in the theater that cheered for that.

Later this summer, we have another offering in the ways of superhero-dom, with “Superman Returns.” Directed by Brian Singer, director of the first two X-Men films, the film shall hopefully meet fan expectations. The plot is that Superman (spoiler: Clark Kent) has left Earth for a year or so, only to return one day.

The actor that signed on for the lead role looks remarkably similar to the late Christopher Reeve.

Other movies coming out include the aforementioned “Snakes on a Plane” and “Charlotte’s Web” (around Christmas time). Next year we can look forward to “Spider-Man 3” and a live-action movie of “Transformers.”

Now, with “Transformers,” I’m not sure what to make of it. Sure, I want it to be awesome, but I don’t know if it’ll meet expectation. Michael Bay (“The Rock,” “Armageddon”) is directing, Steven Spielberg is executive producing, most of the original voice talents are being contacted to reprise the roles of their robotic counterparts, and the story is being based off the original story first shown to audiences back in the mid-’80s, but still I’m scared that it could get screwed up. Supposedly a teaser trailer for the film is to be shown sometime this year around July.

If not, I’m sure more info will come from the San Diego Comic-Con this year (in July), where the film was first officially announced last year.
