Troubled geniuses, Texas-style
I highly recommend these two documentaries on two of our state’s greatest songwriters: Daniel Johnston and Roky Erikson.
Tangentially, here’s a documentary on Jandek — not one of our state’s greatest songwriters and probably not mentally ill, but interesting nonetheless.

I HAVE LIVED IN EAST TEXAS FOR 9 YEARS AND CANT UNDER STAND WHY WE GET PAYED LESS AN HOUR THAN YOU WOULD TWO HOURS SOUTH OF HERE? I ASKED PEOPLE AROUND TOWN WHY ? AND MOST OF THEM SAY THIS IS EAST TEXAS!I THINK EMPOLYERS IN EAST TEXAS HAVE DRILLED THIS IN TO FOLKS HEADS FOR YEARS.SO FOLKS JUST GO WITH IT!I DONT KNOW? WE NEED A CHANGE!
