Calling all artists
I’m a huge fan of the arts. Whether it’s musical, written or visual, I’m all about it. But, since picking up a paintbrush last week, I have found a new appreciation for visual artists, e.g. painters, sculptors. My first attempt at painting turned out to be less than fabulous ( I had no idea oil paints took so long to dry and my coffee pot is comprised of a hideous collage of brown, gold and gray). But, while my artistry skills are still in their amateur stage, East Texas is home to many talented painters and the First Street Arts Center wants to find them. Here’s the 411.
- Who: First Street Arts Center in Lufkin
- What: Seeking submissions for of art works in any medium for its Feb. 14 “Shades of Red” exhibition.
- When: Submission deadline is Feb. 4 and winners: best in show, first, second and third places and honorable mention will be revealed at 5 p.m. Feb. 14 during the exhibition.
- Why The prize money. The exhibition will award $100 to the best in show, $50 to first place, a $25 Hobby Lobby gift certificate for second and several small prizes to the third and honorable mention recipients.
- How Download a submission form at www.firststreetartscenter.com.There is a $10 submission fee for up to five pieces and a $2 fee for each additional piece. Checks can be mailed or brought in to 104 South First St., Lufkin, Texas 75901. Credit card payments can also be used by calling 639-3250.
