Journey back to the 1940s

The 1940s were such a great era — the long pencil skirts, Rosie the riveter and, of course, the big band style of music. Well, the pencil skirts and Rosie are pretty much out, however big band music is making a comeback this Saturday at the Crockett Civic Center. Here’s the 411.

  • Who: Holly Larocque and the Mark Ferguson Orchestra

  • What: Big Band Broadcast, a high-powered return to the golden age of radio broadcasts from starlit ballrooms. The show follows the design of those long ago evenings when glamour was king and big bands ruled the airwaves.

  • When: 7:30 p.m. Saturday Jan. 18

  • Where: Crockett Civic Center

Why: The tunes are comprised of big band classics such as “Stardust” and “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree,” along with a few suprises and novelties along the way.

  • How much: Tickets are $28, $22 and $18 with half-price tickets for students. Reserved tickets are available at the Piney Woods Fine Arts Association
