Play me some Mozart
Well it appears that pianists from around the world will be congregating right here in East Texas this weekend. The SFA school of Music will be hosting the George and Peggy Schmidbauer Competition all day Saturday and Sunday on the SFA campus. Forty applicants from across the world will be performing for the grand prize of $5,000 for the senior division and $1,000 for junior division. Really makes me wish I could play. Saturday’s event will include performances by 10 senior semi-finalists, 19-27 year-olds, from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the W.M. Turner Auditorium. Ten junior semi-finalists, 15-18 year-olds, will perform from 9 a.m. to noon and 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Cole Concert Hall. There is no admission charge and the performances are open to the public. However, later that evening, music lovers will have to forgo $10 to see the final rounds, which begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday for the junior division and the next day for the senior division. They perform at 2:30 p.m. in the W.M. Auditorium. Check it out.
