Texas goodies
![]() | Texas wine has a personality all its own. I don’t often drink it — mainly because I’m more drawn to cabernet and merlot. But, on occasion I’ll venture outside my comfort zone, and dive into a glass of shiraz. In general, though, it’s safe-to-say that when it comes to wine selection, I’m a conservative. Recently, I came across a list of 10 Texas wines that opened up my eyes up to the possibility of adding a little variety to my vino. Here they are. 1. Becker Vineyards Chenin Blanc Martin Vineyards 2006. A dry, white wine from the Texas High Plains. 2. Guerra Vineyards Signature Red Muscadine 2006. A sweet, red wine made right here in the Piney Woods of East Texas. 3.Kiepersol Estates Texas Cabernet Sauvignon 2005. Another red wine made in the Piney Woods of East Texas. 4.Homestead Winery La Bodega de Mitchell Crema del Sol NV. A cream sherry made in the capital of Texas wine country, Grapevine. 5.Pleasant Hill Winery Collina Bianca NV. A dry, white wine made in Central Texas. 6. Flat Creek Estate Travis Peak Muscato D’Arancia 2006. A desert wine made in the Texas hill country. 7. Sandstone Cellars II 2005. A fruity, red wine made in Mason County. 8. Llano Estacado Viviano Super Tuscan Style Red. A red wine made in the Texas High Plains. 9. Inwood Estates Vineyards Tempranillo-Cabernet 2003. The red grapes of this wine come from West Texas, however, the wine itself is made in North Texas. 10. La Diosa Cellars Sangria NV. A sangria made from grapes all across the Lone Star State. |
