Nothing to do … or so I thought
Moving from Big D (Dallas for those who aren’t familiar with the nickname) was quite a culture shock for me. I’m by no means a go-out-every-night type of gal, however, the transition from the big city to a small town was an adjustment because I was accustom to having something always going on, and Nacogdoches didn’t seem to have that. Well, about an hour ago, after starting what will be a very long events calendar for our April issue, I realize I was wrong, dead wrong. Perhaps it’s because it’s spring, or maybe last month I just didn’t look at all the right venues, but I can assure you that next month no one should have any problems finding exciting events in Nacogdoches.

I also moved from Dallas to the Lufkin area about 13 years ago, and it never ceased to amaze me the difference between the two. I love Dallas and you’re right - there is always something to do whenever you want to do it. Big city living, but many quiet areas like White Rock Lake.
Unfortunately, the biggest differences I noticed were things like education levels, technology, education, civility and education. I ran for School Board one year and actually had a parent tell me that leaving school at the fifth grade was good enough for him and it was good enough for his son! Go figure … Many people don’t want change, any kind of change.
