Texas Nationals to open Saturday

Truth be told, I’d never heard of Texas National before I moved here. But, now, it seems wherever I go, Dallas, Galveston or Houston, someone immediately connects the event to Nacogdoches. This year, more than 350 artists living and working in the U.S. entered the national art competition. The winners will be announced Saturday by renowned artist Roger Shimomura at The Art Center @ the Old Opera House. The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a slide lecture on his work, some of which will be displayed upstairs in a special exhibit. What I found great about the few pieces that I have seen, is how intricate they are. They contain so much detail. So if you’re looking for something to do this weekend, I highly recommend you stop by the Old Opera House.
