Let’s wrestle

When a colleague of mine, Jeff Awtrey, approached me earlier this week about whether I would be attending Lufkin’s Downtown Hoedown on April 19, my initial response was, “Hmm, I don’t think so.” But then Jeff said the Southwest Premier Wrestling show would there, and he would be working as a timekeeper. Wrestling at a hoedown? This is intriguing.
The downtown festival will be host to several other events, including a petting zoo and a civil war reenactment, but the wrestling matches at noon in front of the downtown courthouse and 7 p.m. at the Lufkin National Guard will certainly be a highlight of the day— at least for me. While I don’t really follow wrestling all that much, I do recall the days of watching Hulk Hogan as a little girl, and being mesmerized by the raw nature of the sport. I can’t wait to be able to see that again live.
